Helping To Provide 40,000 Meals this Winter

Employee owned Loadhog, has partnered up with FareShare Yorkshire to helped provide 40,000 meals to those in need this winter.

FareShare believe that no good food should go to waste. They redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals for their local communities. In 2022 and 2023, FareShare served 8,500 local charities, redistributed 54,000 tonnes of food and support over 1 million people in need.

When Loadhog found out about FareShare, they dived straight into helping out where ever they could, whether this be providing dollies and containers to help move produce around, or transporting stock to and from sites.

17 tonnes of surplus food was collected by Loadhog and taken to FareShare’s distribution centre in Leeds. This will be divided up across hundreds of charities who will then distribute to their community.

Supporting causes like this fits perfectly with Loadhog’s core values. The Loadhog Foundation was formed in 2021 to provide funding and support to other charitable organisations and good causes. Loadhog encourages their Foundation by giving 1% of its budgeted pre-tax net profits every year, going towards supporting local, national and international charities. Every employee is encouraged to take time off work to support and volunteer with projects that they believe in.

Rotherham Bereaved Youngsters Supported by Loadhog Donation

Young people in Rotherham whose parents have passed away in Rotherham Hospice are to get extra support after their loss thanks to a £1,200 donation from Loadhog, Sheffields returnable transit packaging innovator.

Rotherham Hospice is already running bereavement sessions for youngsters who have lost their parents to cancer or ill health there and the cash will help to expand the vital service.

The Sunbeams group, which currently holds sessions four times a month, is dedicated to supporting young people with bereavement and pre-bereavement counselling and is proving to be a much needed service.

The hospices chief executive, Christopher Duff, said: Loadhogs donation is both thoughtful and timely. It will make a positive difference to what we can do for our patients and their families.

We are trying to keep pace with the demand for this type of counselling and the donation will go towards funding this truly valued service. We are most grateful to Loadhog for choosing Rotherham Hospital for this donation.

Loadhog has a charity team which decided to donate £1,200 eight times this year to a different cause each time. The first was to Revive Café, which supports the citys homeless, and the second to the Include Foundation which helps vulnerable young people.

Marketing activity at Loadhog, Sheffields transit returnable packaging innovator, has been reinforced with 23-year-old Jake Charlton joining the team as the co-ordinator focusing on this essential area of the companys activities.

Jake, who is from Oxford, gained a degree in marketing, communications and advertising from Sheffield Hallam University. Then he spent a year with Mattel as a regional marketing assistant working with the global team to achieve optimum communication with customers about the companys toy range.

Loadhogs sales and marketing co-ordinator, Naomi Jones, commented: Loadhog is enjoying organic growth through innovation and work with a loyal customer base, which is benefiting from the significant cost savings provided by our products. Loadhog, Sheffields returnable packaging innovator, has demonstrated its commitment to the community by donating £1,200 to a charity currently focussing on improving the lives of young people in the S9 area where the company is based.

The Include Foundation supports vulnerable young people in different community projects by providing opportunities to play sport through partnerships with local professional and amateur teams. Money raised funds participation fees and creates camps to keep young people away from harm during school holidays and after school.

Nick Gill, manager of The Include Foundation, said: Loadhogs money will allow us to bring together the many different ethnic backgrounds living in S9, removing social barriers in a fun environment, enjoying sport together and decreasing anti-social behaviour. We are thrilled that Loadhog has helped us to better its local community proving that the company is committed to improving the lives of its local residents.

We Are Contributing to SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Goal: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable

In a world with an ever-increasing population, it is crucial that modern and sustainable cities are built to accommodate everyone. This will involve intelligent urban planning that will create safe, affordable, and resilient cities, focused around green and cultural living conditions.

50% of the population live in cities and by 2050, 6.5 billion people (2/3 of humanity) will live in urban areas.

Since the end of the 20^th century, cities have grown rapidly, causing an increase of migration to urban areas. This has led to a surge in mega-cities. A mega-city is a very large city, typically with a population of more than 10 million people. In 1990 only 10 mega-cities existed, whereas by 2014, there were 28 mega-cities, home to approximately 453 million people. As a result of this rapid urbanisation, development of housing, infrastructure and services became outpaced, causing a surge in the proportion of the urban population living in slums, this rose to 24% in 2018.

Sustainable development cannot be achieved unless the way in which urban spaces are built and managed significantly changes.

In order to make cities safe and sustainable, there needs to be access to affordable housing, upgrading of slum settlements, investment in public transport, creation of green spaces and improved urban planning and management.

SDG 11.4 – Protect the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage

Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

Loadhog contribute to this through donations to the Eden Project – an educational charity which connects us with the living world, exploring how we can work towards a better future.

In addition, Loadhog protect one acre of the Peruvian Rainforest which stores 260 tons CO₂e.

SDG 11.6 – Reduce the Environmental Impact of Cities

By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management.

At Loadhog, 100% of our waste is recycled and composted. Furthermore, we measure our carbon emissions, and these have been certified by Planet Mark.

Commute in a sustainable way – bike, walk or take public transport. Save the car trips for when you have a big group.
Support a project in a rundown area for safe housing. You can volunteer to help with building houses, fixing existing ones, setting up public or green spaces.
Take advantage of your right to elect the leaders in your local community.
Take care of public spaces. Start yourself and inspire others to contribute to better public spaces – water the greenery, trim, and plant trees, renovate sport areas and playgrounds, organise a clean-up. On the 16^thof September eight Loadhog Employees spent the day cleaning the river Don as part of their community day. Similarly, two weeks prior five employees litter picked around the vicinity of Hawke Street as part of a community morning.

The impact of plastic packaging on the environment is huge. After the 2018 coastal clean-up, Ocean Conservancy found that seven of the top 10 collected items contained plastics. More specifically the impact of single use plastic is of more concern, as these disposable items don’t tend to biodegrade. This results in microplastics polluting water sources and in some cases even our food.

Loadhog is committed to helping reduce the usage of single use plastics within the supply chain. This is what led us to creating innovative products such as the Pallet Lid. The Pallet Lid is the perfect solution for loading a pallet, with no banding or stretch wrap. Eliminating all elements of stretch wrap is becoming increasingly important as it is far from being environmentally conscious. According to the World Health Organisation, both PVC and PDVC can release toxic harmful chemical called dioxin when being eliminated, making plastic wrap one of the main contributors of the global plastic pollution issue.

Sky tasked Unipart Logistics to remove all single use packaging from their supply chain. The Loadhog Pallet Lid was able to offer Sky a sustainable alternative when they were trying to get rid of stretch wrap. The Pallet Lid was able to reduce 10.2 tonnes of plastic wrap per annum, equivalent to 79,200 pallets of single use plastic.

Loadhog also collaborated with Böllhoff who saved approximately €125,000 a year by using the Loadhog Pallet Lid solution to transport their goods. Annually Loadhog’s Pallet Lid eliminates more than 1.8 million metres of single use stretch wrap globally for the Böllhoff group, saving approximately 50,000 litres of oil every year. The returnable nature of the goods increases traceability as the resources are not discarded as waste, they are reused.

Loadhog launches innovative collapsible container

Loadhog Limited, the Sheffield-based, multi award-winning reusable packaging manufacturer, has added an innovatively designed collapsible container range to its armoury which further strengthens its position as a major industry player.

The Collapsible Container features an integrated divider system, allowing the user to segregate goods further within, thereby helping to reduce labour time.
The specifically designed features within the box not only ease handling but also provide significant strength to ultimately mean a lower damage rate. The containers ergonomic design allows it to be more easily collapsed, giving it a far greater user experience and lowering the potential for damage.

Loadhogs design manager, Leigh Jowett commented: We have spent significant time speaking to users of existing collapsible containers on the market. We have listened to their concerns, built in their requests and created a product that is much more user friendly.

Loadhog is passionate about design and innovation, and on this occasion, we believe we have created another winner.

The new container is available in a range of sizes, including optional lids and dividers, making it a versatile unit. Available in multiple colours with RFID and, with label points on each side, the product will meet all customer needs.

In addition to the new collapsible range, Loadhog has added more sizes to its already successful Attached Lid container (ALC) range with a 250mm option available from April 1st.

The new collapsible range should help to further secure its position within the European markets, with the 250mm ALC set to assist with that growth. Cancer Patients Will Soon Sit More Comfortably Thanks to Loadhog's Support

A donation of more than £1,000 by Loadhog, Sheffields packaging innovator, to the Weston Park Cancer Support Centre will help cancer patients cope better with unpleasant side effects of their treatment.

The hour-long auricular acupuncture sessions, offered by the Cancer Support Centre, improve sleep, help to reduce stress, anxiety and the intensity and regularity of the hot flushes, which can result from exhausting cancer treatment in the hospital.

Anne Crofts, senior support nurse at the centre, had already decided to raise cash by running the York 10k to purchase new chairs which enable the patients to rest and recline during the treatment. When Loadhog heard about her effort it wanted to support her fundraising. The companys donation will not only help Anne to reach her target but will also allow the centre to search for leg supports during treatment.

Anne said: We are thrilled that Loadhog recognised how important the special chairs are to acupuncture benefitting the patients. Reducing this particularly stressful side effect helps us to improve the lives of people undergoing strenuous cancer treatment. Thank you Loadhog, we are all grateful.

Situated close to the hospital, the Weston Park Cancer Support Centre is a charity, which offers a range of services run by healthcare professions to support anyone affected by cancer; patient, family or friend.

Loadhog appoints new Guardian sales representative

Loadhog, Sheffields multi award-winning logistics innovator, has responded to the growing business from its Guardian Load Restraint System by appointing another sales representative to further boost sales of this advanced product.

Sheffield-born Mark Tunnard, 26, is focused on new and ongoing Guardian sales in Northern England and Scotland. Guardian was developed by Loadhog to comply with recently updated HSE and DVSA safety legislation and guidelines regarding load restraint on curtain sided vehicles.

Immediately before joining Loadhog Mark, who has a business economics degree, was a metal broker dealing with various aerospace and power generation alloys from scrap procurement through to selling to end users. His work involved metallurgy, financial management and nickel hedging on the London Metal Exchange.

Mark said: I am keen to drive up brand and product awareness and increase sales in line with and above forecasts, onwards to global markets in the future.

It was Loadhogs organisation, culture and ground floor opportunity which attracted me to the company. The encouraging and focused environment is testament to each individuals presence in the company. I believe that a big part of this is the companys employee ownership policy resulting in can do people.

The Guardian Load Restraint bridges the gap between non-compliant roof straps and time consuming ratchet straps on curtain-sided vehicles. It is a roof suspended rave-to-rave strapping system which prevents the load from moving. It is operated from the ground with no need for drivers to climb onto the vehicle platform or blindly throw strapping over the load, as they would with a standard ratchet strap, making the system safer, quicker and overall more cost effective than precursor products.

Lions set to roar across South Yorkshire as Sheffield Children's celebrates 150 years

A spectacular pride of lions will take over South Yorkshire in 2026 as part of Pride of Yorkshire - a major public art trail celebrating 150 years of Sheffield Children's and raising vital funds to support the hospital's next chapter of life-changing care.

Building on the success of Bears of Sheffield, the new trail will feature 150 large lion and lioness sculptures, alongside 150 smaller lion cubs, creating a breathtaking free art exhibition that brings together buisnesses, artists, schools, and the public. Each lion will tell a unique story, with stunning designs created by professional artists and community groups, before being auctioned to raise further funds for Sheffield Children's.

A once-in-a-generation celebration for yorkshire

This ambitious initiative will see sculptures positioned across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield bringing communities together and inspiring thousands of visitors to explore the region.

Inside The Hog Works: Loadhog Hosts Made in Yorkshire Factory Tour

This week, we were delighted to open the doors to The Hog Works in Sheffield and welcome Made in Group members for an exclusive factory tour, bringing together manufacturers from across Yorkshire and the Midlands for an insightful morning behind the scenes here at Loadhog.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to share how our people, products and culture continue to shape our approach to sustainable reusable packaging, while creating space for open conversations, collaboration and the sharing of best practice across the manufacturing community.

From presentations led by our team to guided tours through our 120,000 sq ft Sheffield facility, the morning highlighted what makes Loadhog unique: employee ownership, innovation, sustainability and a commitment to helping businesses reduce waste across their supply chains.

Proud to Welcome Fellow Yorkshire Manufacturers

The morning began with an introduction from our Managing Director, Shaun Khan, who welcomed guests to Loadhog and shared an overview of our journey since the business was founded in 2003.

Shaun spoke about how Loadhog began as an injection moulding business built around solving real packaging challenges. Our first product, the Loadhog Pallet Lid, was developed after a customer needed a better way to secure goods in transit and reduce product damage. That solution went on to replace single-use shrink wrap while improving load stability, and remains one of our most recognised innovations.

More than 20 years later, we have grown into a £43 million turnover business, with ambitious plans to continue scaling towards the £100m mark in the years to come.

Shaun also highlighted something that sits at the heart of who we are: employee ownership. Everyone at Loadhog is personally invested in the success of the business, and that sense of ownership continues to drive performance, accountability and pride across the company.

From Sheffield to a Growing Global Footprint

Our Operations Director, Rob Deakin, gave guests an insight into our manufacturing footprint and how far the business has come since its early days.

In 2003, we operated with two injection moulding machines, around a dozen people and a 14,000 sq ft site. Today, The Hog Works in Sheffield spans 120,000 sq ft, operates 24/7 and is home to 18 Engel injection moulding machines, with up to 200 people working across shifts depending on customer demand.

Rob also shared how our manufacturing footprint has continued to grow internationally. In October 2025, we officially opened our 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Obernai, France, supporting our European expansion and strengthening our ability to serve customers closer to their operations.

Alongside this, we are also developing our manufacturing presence in Chicago, supporting growth in the US market and helping us respond to increasing demand across North America.

A key part of our manufacturing strength is flexibility. While many businesses in our sector rely on long production campaigns, our ability to run shorter, more responsive production runs helps customers access the products they need with greater agility.

Innovation with Long-Term Purpose

Innovation has always been central to Loadhog, and our Innovation Director, Leigh Jowett, shared how product development and sustainability are shaping the future of the business.

At Loadhog, sustainability is not an add-on. It is built into the way we design, test and manufacture our products. As Leigh explained, we are not just designing products; we are shaping systems that will continue to exist long after they are first launched.

That long-term thinking reflects our employee-owned culture. We see ourselves as custodians of the business, taking responsibility for what we create and thinking beyond the point of sale to the full life of each product.

Leigh also shared our thinking around the pathway to 2050. While the route to net zero continues to evolve, we are focused on reducing carbon intensity over time, making better decisions today and building our understanding as we progress.

Product development plays a major role in that journey. Our reusable packaging products can remain in circulation for 10 to 15 years, meaning the decisions we make at the design stage have a lasting impact.

To support this, we have invested in our innovation studio and validation lab, where products are tested, simulated and assessed to ensure they perform consistently in real-world environments.

Reusable Packaging in Action

Our Key Account Manager, Sue Matthews, brought the product story to life by explaining how reusable packaging helps customers operate smarter, reduce waste and build more circular supply chains.

Sue highlighted the benefits of returnable packaging, from removing shrink wrap, cardboard, tape and other single-use materials, to lowering long-term costs, improving load stability and making handling safer and more efficient.

Guests were introduced to a range of Loadhog products, including the Pally Magnum, half pallet containers, pallet lids, totes and dollies. Each product demonstrated how reusable packaging can help manufacturers streamline material flow while reducing reliance on disposable packaging.

One example shared on the day was fellow Made in Yorkshire member OE Electrics, who use Loadhog products including totes, dollies, the Pally and the Pally Magnum to support internal flow throughout their facility, all of which were on display at OE’s MIY Factory Tour event earlier this year.

It was a great example of how returnable packaging can improve day-to-day movement, reduce waste and increase efficiency within a live manufacturing environment.

As Sue explained, our service is about more than supplying products. It is about delivering complete returnable packaging solutions that integrate smoothly into customer operations. Because we are employee owned, every part of that service is delivered by people who are personally invested in helping our customers succeed.

Sharing Best Practice Across the Region

The factory tour gave us a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded manufacturers from across Yorkshire and share some of the work taking place across our business.

Guests explored our shopfloor, learned more about our injection moulding capabilities, saw how our products are assembled and tested, and heard how our people continue to drive our growth.

The morning also created space for open conversations around sustainability, manufacturing efficiency, product development and continuous improvement.

For us, that shared learning is incredibly important. Manufacturing is at its best when businesses are open, collaborative and willing to exchange ideas that help strengthen the wider sector.

A Proud Moment for Our Team

Hosting the Made in Yorkshire factory tour was a proud moment for everyone at Loadhog.

From the team members who welcomed guests on arrival, to those who led presentations, supported the guided tours, answered questions and helped bring the day together, the event was a real team effort.

It gave us the opportunity to showcase not only our products and processes, but also the culture behind them.

Our people are central to everything we do, and we were delighted to share that with so many manufacturers who are equally passionate about innovation, sustainability and strengthening UK manufacturing.

New Appointments: Sales manager joins Sheffield manufacturing firm Loadhog Limited

Manufacturing firm Loadhog Limited has appointed a new sales manager following a recent boom in business.

Matthew Payne, 29, has been welcomed into the role at the Sheffield-based company, which has recently enjoyed a 30 per cent sales increase on figures compared with those in 2014.

Matthew, who spent the last four years as a sales manager covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa for an adhesive tape manufacturer, is now focussed on expansion within the retail sector for the entire Loadhog RTP range.

He said: This is an exciting prospect and I look forward to delivering growth.

Loadhog, Encirc, and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust have worked together for over 10 years to help support youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is an educational trust that provides programmes for children and young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds and the inner city, that enable them to learn new skills, grow in confidence, and reduce the risk of isolation. The Trust is dedicated to helping youngsters that struggle in mainstream settings, and with the recent surge in mental health issues, their support is needed now more than ever. The Trust delivers over 10,000 student-days every year.

The Trust has its own volunteer-run vineyard, which plays a crucial role within the business. The wine is sold through the farm shop and at local events, generating income, interest, and raising awareness of the Trust’s work.

Encirc, a glass bottle manufacturer, donates bottles to the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust every year to be used for the wine. Their most recent donation was a staggering 8 full pallets of glass bottles.

Encirc, part of the Vidrala group, is a market leader in glass container design, manufacturing, bottling and logistics solutions for the UK, Irish and European food and beverages industries. The company produces more than 3 billion glass bottles and other containers annually and can fill up to 400 million litres of bulk shipped beverages every year.

Rob Turvey, Sales and Marketing Director of Glass at Encirc, said; “This is a brilliant partnerships between three like-minded companies to help children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Encirc has been making donations of glass bottles since 2012 and it is great to see the fantastic work that Whirlow Hall Farm Trust carries out in the community and there is no doubt their work is needed now more than ever.”\

Returnable packaging manufacturer Loadhog has been partnered with Encirc for over 15 years, providing them with the Smartpad, a reusable layer pad that helps safely transport bottles to customers. Loadhog provides the transport for the bottles and the grapes for the Trust, ensuring the winemaker receives everything they need to process the delicious wine. Loadhog’s relationship with Encirc has helped to provide a strong connection with the Trust and, in return, raised awareness of all the brilliant things Whirlow is doing.

Yorkshire born, Loadhog, manufactures returnable transit packaging for a range of industries saving companies valuable time, money and labour. The employee owned manufacturer, ensure constant innovation by having a key performance requirement that states, a minimum of 25% of turnover must come from products less than four years old.

We Are Contributing to SDG 15 - Life on Land

Goal: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Agriculture is one of the most fundamental resources on the planet in terms of its economic benefits and means of development.

More than 30% of the earths surface is covered by forests, however almost 20,000 hectares of forests are being lost every day and the persistent degradation of drylands has led to desertification of almost 4 billion of hectares of land.

8% of animals on planet earth have become extinct and 22% face risk of extinction.

In order to prevent the loss of natural habitats and biodiversity, it is essential that deforestation is halted, and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems takes place. If no action is taken to protect natural habitats, biodiversity and prevent land degradation, we risk the future of our survival.

SDG 15.2 – End Deforestation and Restore Degraded Forests

By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and restoration globally. Loadhog protect one acre of the Peruvian Rainforest which stores 260 tons CO₂e.

How we can help:

Don’t shop for pets! Visit your local animal shelter and adopt an animal there – ‘adopt don’t shop’
Recycle paper, glass, metal and old electronics.
Clean local parks and forests. Organise your own or join an existing clean up event to sustain the ecosystem of your local green space. On the 16^thof September eight Loadhog Employees spent the day cleaning the river Don as part of their community day. Similarly, two weeks prior five employees litter picked around the vicinity of Hawke Street as part of a community morning.
Reduce your use of paper. Avoid printing and substitute it with electronic devices or carriers.
Don’t buy products tested on animals. Check the labels on the products you buy.
Composting food scraps can reduce climate impact while recycling nutrients.
Don’t use pesticides. To protect and sustain the quality of soil, don’t use chemicals while growing plants.

Skydiving for Sheffield Hospitals Charity

It was a lovely day for a skydive or should we say 16 skydives!

A number of our employees took to the heights on Saturday, jumping out of a plane to raise money for Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

Sheffield Hospitals Charity’s core mission is to enhance the care and treatment of patients accessing NHS services in Sheffield, by supporting high-priority areas which are beyond the scope of government funding.

Our employees have all chosen different areas within the charity that they want to support and they have raised money towards these brilliant causes. The Loadhog Foundation has sponsored each diver £200, making the donation a grand total of £3,200 from the foundation.

We are very proud of each and every one of them for conquering fears, trying something new and doing something good for an amazing charity.

Safe and Sound: Protect Your Goods With Loadhog

Loadhog’s reusable packaging solutions protect your goods from the risk of damage or theft.

As products pass through supply chains, they can suffer damage if their packaging is not robust – through rough handling or damp conditions – or theft if it is not secure. These product losses are expensive, but this cost can be minimised by using long-life packaging solutions from Loadhog. The company’s attached lid containers (ALCs), for example, replace cardboard boxes to provide a versatile solution across production, distribution and retail. Nestable and stackable, Loadhog’s ALCs are designed for ergonomic and space-efficient handling. All models can be fitted with security seals and are compatible with banding machines. The Apollo and Artemis ranges feature a concealed hinge pin, making them tamper-proof. Using ALCs in your supply chain eliminates the cost of single-use packaging and secures labour savings. For example, retailer Pets At Home invested in Loadhog ALCs and has achieved time savings worth around £450,000 per year.

Loadhog’s largest ALC is the half pallet container with integrated pallet feet for handling directly by forklifts. Nestable and stackable, the 190-litre HPC features steel rods and reinforced handle clips to provide additional security, as well as multiple sealing locations.

Eco-friendly pallet lid replaces stretch wrap

All Loadhog ALCs can be secured with the innovative Loadhog Pallet Lid. Available in UK, Euro, half Euro and US pallet sizes, the pallet lid is a sustainable and cost-effective method of securing your load. No banding or stretch wrapping is required – simply pull down the retractable straps and ratchet them tight. The straps are slash-resistant and can be secured with seals for tamper-proofing.

With Loadhog’s pallet lid, Penguin Random House reduced its use of stretch wrap by over 47% in the first year. Thepallet lid also saves time – taking just 20 seconds to fit, compared to 180 seconds to stretch wrap a pallet. And, with the ability to double stack loads, the pallet lid ensures increased vehicle fill for further savings.

We Are Contributing to SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

Goal: Ensure Availability and Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation for all

More than 40% of the worlds population suffer from water scarcity and this percentage is forecast to increase with the surge of global temperatures as a result of climate change. One in three people live without sanitation, attributing to unnecessary disease and death. Although substantial progress has been made with access to clean drinking water, lack of sanitation inhibits these advances. However, suffering and loss of life can be prevented by a means of education in hygiene practices and if affordable equipment becomes more accessible.

60% of the population lack access to safely managed sanitation facilities, leaving approximately 3 billion people without basic handwashing facilities at home.

Various steps need to be taken to establish reliable universal access to safe and affordable drinking water by 2030. These include investments in infrastructure and sanitation facilities, restoration, and conservation of water-related ecosystems; and education surrounding hygiene.

SDG 6.3 – Improve Water Quality, Wastewater Treatment and Safe Reuse

By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimising release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater, and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally.

Loadhog contributes to this SDG because 95% of all our water is treated responsibly.

SDG 6.6 – Protect and restore water related ecosystems

By 2020, protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, wetlands, rivers, aquifers, and lakes.

Loadhog protect one acre of the Peruvian Rainforest which stores 260 tons CO₂e.

How we can be engaged:

Run a campaign on hygiene. Raise awareness about the hygiene issues in our community through social media.
Organise a clean up project for rivers and oceans. For example, on the 16^th September 8 Loadhog Employees spent the day cleaning the River Don as part of their community day.
Don’t overuse water. Make sure to close a tap when washing dishes, take short showers – bathtubs require gallons more water than a 5–10-minute shower. Consider getting a water meter to be aware of your water usage.

The Autotote is the next development in intralogistics containers. It is perfectly designed to offer smooth silent running, with its single shot double skin strengthen base and cantilever edges.

The innovation of the Autotote’s double skin concaved base is designed to run smoothly and quietly along automation systems, while maintaining a high level of durability and ultimate strength. The diagonal ribbing strengthens the base to the highest standard and the 100% closed underside protects the conveyor system, helping to save cost on belt maintenance, while improving grip and speed.

The base consists of a cantilever edge that reduces noise on rollers and a chamfered side edge that provides a smoother transition between linking conveyors or during a directional change. Loadhog Hosts The First Made In Yorkshire Breakfast Morning

Multi award-winning Sheffield manufacturer Loadhog opened its doors for the inaugural Made in Yorkshire breakfast networking event in the UKs largest county.

During the morning, more than 20 visitors were treated to presentations about Loadhog as well as the other companies who are part of GLIDE which is an employee owned company representing the shareholders working in its partner companies Gripple, Gripple Automation, Loadhog, PMS Diecasting, GoTools and Laser Scanning. A factory tour of Loadhogs 120,000 square foot facility and refreshments were included in the event.

Manufacturing firms across the region, including JB Springs, Portakabin and Montracon Ltd were represented.

Loadhog is an innovative returnable and reusable transit packaging solutions provider, working with the likes of Heineken, Jaguar Land Rover and Ford.

Jason Pitt, CEO of Made in Yorkshire, said: It was great to utilise Loadhogs facilities for our first breakfast networking event in the region. Loadhogs philosophies and innovation is fantastic and are a great example for other companies to learn from.

First international sales co-ordinator appointed at Loadhog

In response to sustained and expanding overseas business for its innovative range of returnable transit packaging (RTP) the Sheffield-based manufacturer, Loadhog has taken on its first international sales co-ordinator.

Already contributing her language skills to the multi award-winning company is Sheffield-born Sarah Cottingham, who has lived and tutored abroad.

Equipped with a Spanish degree, and latterly experience of sales and business development, Sarah is now working primarily with Loadhogs international sales manager, Damien Montagne, who is French.

The increased international sales team aims to boost sales not only in Europe but also across the world.

Sarah said: My work overseas was an amazing experience which I am certain will be useful in my new role. I am excited about growing RTP sales internationally and also to applying my language skills with a view to creating new opportunities for Loadhog.

From the start I was welcomed by the sales team and I look forward to my future with an employee-owned company which holds such strong values and ethics.

Loadhog has proudly been awarded Gold in the Sustainable Packaging Initiative of the Year category at the Environmental Packaging Awards 2025, recognising its outstanding leadership in sustainable packaging innovation.

At the heart of Loadhog’s success is its Vision 2030 strategy. A comprehensive roadmap to achieving Net Zero, underpinned by durable, reusable packaging designed to eliminate single-use waste. From installing solar panels and adopting carbon-saving measures to using a minimum of 30% recycled content in all products, Loadhog is transforming the packaging industry one solution at a time.

Judges praised Loadhog for its clear communication of environmental goals, employee empowerment, and its strong year-on-year data, including a 15.7% reduction in carbon emissions since 2021. Initiatives such as swap-out schemes, alignment with the UK Plastic Tax, and Operation Clean Sweep further demonstrate its circular economy commitment.

Loadhog To Demonstrate Increased Focus On The European Market At LogiMAT 2016

Loadhog, the UKs multi award-winning packaging innovator, has stepped up its European sales campaign by not only increasing its dedicated sales team, but also its presence at the forthcoming LogiMAT 2016, International Trade Fair for Distribution, Materials Handling and Information Flow, in a three-pronged approach.

Whilst continuing to make a significant impression on the UK packaging market, Loadhog will make its second appearance at LogiMAT, this year from a well-positioned stand on which the companys innovative range of returnable transit packaging (RTP) will be displayed, questions answered and literature freely available.

Working from the stand will be international sales manager, Damien Montagne, who is French and has worked from the companys headquarters in Yorkshire for six years focusing on European sales; Martin Bachmann, who is German and based in Kassel, and was appointed in 2014 as sales manager for Germany and Austria; and Michel Barda who is French and the newly appointed central European sales director, based in Strasbourg. The companys managing director, Shaun Khan, will also travel to Stuttgart to support his team during the exhibition.

The Loadhog stand is confidently expected to attract strong interest from wide ranging retailers, and also representatives from the automotive industry, all interested in solving handling and logistics problems, reducing waste and increasing vehicle fill; all benefits which Loadhog products offer.

The Loadhog RTP range to be showcased at LogiMAT this year includes the Attached Lid Container with a unique nested lid for up to 10 per cent greater vehicle fill on the return of empties; the Loadhog Pally/Lid system, a unique pallet/dolly system used in automotive intra-logistics; and the HogBox which, with its large capacity, is ideal for non-food retailers and automotive manufacturers.

Loadhog Celebrates Commitment to Real Living Wage

Loadhog has today been accredited as a Living Wage Employer. Their Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Loadhog receive a minimum hourly wage of £10.90, significantly higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at £10.42 per hour.

Loadhog is based in Sheffield, Yorkshire, the UK region with the highest proportion of non-Living Wage jobs in the country (15.8%), with over 368,000 jobs paying less than the real Living Wage. Despite this, Loadhog has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Doncaster's valued charity benefits from Loadhog donation

John Dyche, an employee at Loadhog, Sheffields transit packaging innovator, was so pleased with the support he and his family received from Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support in Doncaster he nominated the charity for a £1000 donation by his employer.

The charity was set up in 2006 after realising that cancer patients in Doncaster had great difficulty in attending their appointments at the major medical centres in Sheffield.

Firefly has five vehicles, driven by a dedicated group of volunteers. Each carries up to seven people and covers up to 250 miles, with between 20 and 40 passengers daily. By offering this free service Firefly has enabled patients to meet approximately 7,800 appointments a year.

Obviously, Firefly needs to fund this valuable free service which eases the lives of many cancer patients and their families in Doncaster.

Chewy Bacchus, from Firefly, said: Every penny raised goes directly into keeping our vehicles on the road to provide free transport for patients needing to access lifesaving treatment at Sheffields centres. Without donations, such as Loadhogs, we cant run.

On Johns suggestion, it was Loadhogs charity team which decided to donate the cash to Firefly having handed over a similar sum to eight charities during 2016, the last one to Sheffield Childrens Hospital which went into its fundraising pot.

The charity team plans to make more donations later this year and all staff are participating in several events in aid of Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice.

At the end of 2022, Loadhog announced that we had become Planet Mark certified. This acknowledges our commitment to continuous improvement in measuring and reducing carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, travel and waste. We noticed that with our sustained growth we are putting increased pressure on our environmental impact and carbon footprint, making it essential to reduce our emissions where possible.

Loadhog Achieves 2nd Queen's Award for International Trade

Innovative packaging manufacturer, Loadhog, has been awarded a Queen’s Award for International Trade.

The Sheffield based company remains at the forefront of the packaging industry and is committed to creating sustainable solutions for supply chains across the globe.

The multi-award winning, employee-owned manufacturer has now won its 2^nd Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2022 to add to their previous win in 2020. In 2009, the company was also awarded the Innovation Queen’s Award for its unique Smartstak glass transportation system.

In the last 3 years, Loadhog has expanded across the globe, opening Loadhog Sarl in France and Loadhog Inc in Chicago. These subsidiaries have helped to better service our growing number of international customers and allowed us to expand into new and developing markets.

Loadhog hit their 2020 targets early, compelling them to transition their vision to 2023 with new actions, and due to surpassing some of the targets already in 2021, they are now continuing in this direction and setting new targets for 2030. At the rate the business is growing and with the performance in the market increasing, Loadhog is edging closer towards being the world’s leading packaging manufacturer.

Loadhog’s sales have grown significantly over the last three years, with a 220% growth from £13.4m to £29m in 2020. Last year they saw the largest growth and yet performance has maintained in 2021. This may sound surprising because of the pandemic, however due to the rise in click and collect and ecommerce they have managed to push Loadhog solutions into new markets and sectors.

Budding young entrepreneur chooses Loadhog to help grow the business

Despite being offered roles at multinational organisations a young graduate chose to apply his proven entrepreneurial skills by joining the burgeoning sales force at Loadhog, Sheffields returnable packaging innovator.

Appointed as a new Loadhog sales manager, 22-year-old Arran Dixon had created three companies after gaining four A-levels. The first was a stationery supplier, which saved money for his current employer, and then he set up a marketing and branding company after rebranding a website for one of his stationery customers.

Running these companies helped to fund his way through Manchester University after Arran decided this was the best way forward. Whilst studying for a degree in enterprise and human resource management, Arran helped to create an award-winning food business as part of a module.

Guildford-born and now living in Sheffield, Arran now focuses on promoting the companys wide range of returnable packaging products. He still runs his stationery business and looks to save money for Loadhog and also Gripple, its parent company.

Arran said: I learnt a great deal when running the companies and chose to join Loadhog because, as an employee-owned business, everyone feels a sense of belonging and responsibility.

Short term I aim to capitalise on the potential within the packaging market. In the future I want to be in a position where my decisions affect the business by helping to exploit opportunities and grow the business.

Kitchen Refurb for Local Community Centre

The Loadhog Foundation has recently completed a kitchen refurb at Grimesthorpe Family Centre which will ensure it returns as a hub for the local community.

The project involved refurbishing the kitchen space which supports the use of the main hall. The centre had previously been used by charities including an Alzheimer’s café, but deemed unfit for purpose without adequate catering facilities.

Working in partnership with Howden’s joinery, the Loadhog Foundation designed and fitted a brand new kitchen, including new kitchen units, fridge freezer, oven and dishwasher. The result are fantastic and the new space gives the centre the facilities to become a real hub for community and charity events, and have a significant impact on the local area.

The cost of the refurbishment totalled £6500 & 68Hrs of voluntary time through the Loadhog community day programme.

Well done and thank you to all involved in the project!

If you haven’t heard of Quest yet, they’re not just any martial arts club. The local community club aims to develop health fitness and mental well-being through the martial art of Taekwondo and related activities.

Founded by Master Mike McKenzie—a 7th Dan black belt with over 45 years of experience (including a key role in the London 2012 Olympic Games!)—Quest is all about more than just kicks and belts. We Are Contributing to SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

Goal: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Planet earth has provided us with a plethora of natural resources. However, we have been irresponsible with them and currently consume more than what the planet can provide. If we don’t learn how to use and produce sustainably, the consequences we face will be catastrophic.

If the global population reaches 9.8 billion by 2050, we will need one and a half more planet earths in order to provide the natural resources needed to maintain current lifestyles.

As a population, we live by a throw away lifestyle. In 2015 it was calculated that almost 12 tonnes of resources were extracted per person, electronic waste being the sector with the most rapid growth. If we want to sustain current lifestyles, then production, consumption and natural resources need to be managed better and differently.

The way in which goods and resources are produced and consumed must change if we want to reduce the global ecological footprint.

For example, there should be improved management of shared natural resources and more careful disposal of toxic waste and pollutants.

Problems with patterns of consumption tend to be worse in developing countries. Therefore support should be provided to these countries to shift towards more sustainable patterns by 2030.

SDG 12.5 – Substantially Reduce Waste Generation

By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse.

At Loadhog, 100% of our waste is recycled and composted.

12.6 – Encourage Companies to Adopt Sustainable Practices and Sustainability Reporting

OMNIMAX - Omni Channel Distribution, Maximum Logistics Gains

The Omnimax is an omnichannel container that can be used throughout the whole supply chain, from working with automation systems to maximise picking efficiency in the warehouse, to increasing vehicle fill during transport to the store and for deliveries to the end customer. With various automation features and a simple innovative design to increase ergonomics for manual users, this product provides significant benefit for each touch point within supply chain and is the ideal transport solution for retail, click & collect and last mile delivery applications.

Its automation-friendly bail arm system is designed to facilitate stacking operations, reducing the need for complex robotics and human interaction, therefore significantly reducing the cost of implementation. This allows for easy handling during stacking operations; containers can be stacked easily during order picking, without the need for a lid. If used for home delivery, the Omnimax does have an optional lid available to help protect the load during transportation and maintain the packaging aesthetics for the end customer.

Thanks to its versatility, this container combines the features and benefits of an automated container with the high volume and return efficiencies of transport packaging. It can be implemented throughout the whole supply chain, increasing efficiency and productivity throughout.

Available in 4 different heights, the Omnimax provides the largest usable volume on the market, offering maximum litterage of 52.4 (270mm), 62 (320mm), 69 (360mm) and 79 (400mm). Its average increased volume capacity of 7%, not only increases the vehicle’s fill during transport but also reduces waste and costs. With an 80mm nesting pitch, the Omnimax also boasts maximum return efficiencies in comparison to other nesting totes.

In accordance with FM Global regulations, the Omnimax can also be manufactured with drainage holes to allow water to drain away in the event of a fire. The offset position of the holes reduces errors during laser identification, making it perfectly compatible with automated systems.

The easy picking lid sits on a hinge but then opens on an easy release, increasing ergonomics when picking while maintaining cover from dust. When the Omnimax is used in conjunction with the Loadhog Pally & Lid system it facilitates transport and eliminates double handling.

With the rise of e-commerce sales over the last years (from 13.8% in 2019 to 19.6% in 2021 worldwide), retailers have had to focus on click & collect applications and last mile deliveries. King's Award Winners 2023 - Innovation of the Pallet Lid

Returnable packaging manufacturer and multi award winning, Loadhog, has won a King’s Award for the innovation of their Pallet Lid. Over the last 20 years, the Loadhog Pallet Lid has been used by a vast range business across the globe saving their supply chains time, money and waste.

At the time the Pallet Lid was created, there was nothing like it on the market making it a truly unique invention.

In 2003, when Loadhog opened its doors, they invested in two Plastic Injection Moulding Machines, christened them Keith & Ronnie and began production of the Loadhog Pallet Lid. The machines purchased were a new development project carried out with Engel and at the time they were the largest machines utilising Mucell technology.

The benefits of the Pallet Lid were widely spotted by customers with the biggest improvement being decreasing the amount of money being spent on stretch wrap.

We Are Planet Mark Certified!

Planet Mark Business Certification acknowledges our commitment to continuous improvement in measuring and reducing carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, travel, and waste.

They have set us a goal of a 5% reduction in annual emissions. However, to be on target for Net Zero in 2050 we need to reduce our emissions by approximately 3.6% per year. And for our target of Net Zero by 2030 we need to reduce our emissions by 12.5% per year. (These numbers are based on our business certification footprint, with extended scope 3 our footprint will increase and as a result so will our reduction percentages)

Planet Mark are in partnership with Cool Earth. As a result of this, one acre of the Peruvian rainforest has been protected in our name, storing 260 tCO₂e. With every year we continue membership with Planet Mark, one more acre will be protected annually. Between 1990 and 2020, the world lost 20 million acres of primary forest. The Amazon rainforest is losing around 10,000 acres a day and every second, a forest the size of a football pitch is cut down. By 2030, there may only be 10% of rainforests left.

Planet Mark donate 5% of our business certification fee to the Eden Project. An educational charity which connects us to the living world and exploring how we can work towards a better future.

Business Certification is used as a starting point for us to measure our footprint. It covers Scope 1, Scope 2 and a few Scope 3 categories (purchased goods and services (paper only), fuel and energy related activities (transport and distribution of electricity and water), waste, and business travel). We are currently awaiting our Extended Scope 3 Certification from Planet Mark. By measuring our value chain emissions through an Extended Scope 3 Certification process, this will enable us to:

View the largest contributors and areas of our carbon footprint to focus emission reduction endeavours

Omnimax Container Offers Savings for Manufacturers

Durable plastic containers are ideal for storing and transporting parts, components and finished goods in the manufacturing sector. While stack-nest totes – designed to stack when filled and nest when empty – are a common choice, the Omnimax container from Loadhog offers some advantages over these products.

With no need to turn the container through 180 degrees, the Omnimaxsaves time – an important benefit for manufacturers facing labour availability issues. Instead, the Omnimax features bail arms when stacking is required. Brightening Up Your Supply Chain with Recycled Plastics

If we don’t start to rethink plastic, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish (by weight) by 2050. Recycling plastics and reusing materials within packaging helps to eliminate the unnecessary waste generated by supply chains, as roughly 40% of all plastic produced is single use plastic packaging.

As a sustainably minded company, Loadhog, has made the decision to ensure that recycled material is used across its product range.

A large proportion of Loadhog’s products already include at least 30% recycled material, and with them now removing 100% standard virgin products wherever possible, the company is pushing towards a more sustainable future.

Loadhog, returnable packaging expert, has released its brand new recycled material colour range, offering a wide range of bright colours, as well as the standard black and grey. The new repro material has been tried and tested against 100% virgin containers and has proven to be stronger and more durable.

Due to the increase in recycled plastic in Loadhog’s products, the new colour range slightly differs from the 100% virgin containers. However, the advantages of increased sustainability and lowered carbon emissions are what create an impact on companies’ environmental targets.

Custom percentage blends of recycled polypropene may also be available upon request and can be up to as much as 100% depending on colour choice. Increasing the adoption of recycled material used within the industry creates sustainable packaging solutions that more and more businesses are looking for.

Loadhog joins the community of fastest-growing SME exporters in Britain

Loadhog, Sheffields returnable and reusable transit packaging innovator, is one of only two city companies to appear on the third annual Sunday Times Lloyds SME Export Track 100 league table ranking Britains private small and medium-sized companies with the fastest-growing international sales.

Securing 37^th place, the employee-owned company, now with 69 employees, was established in 2003 by Hugh Facey, chairman of the Gripple group, of which Loadhog is a member. Selling into various industries with a wide range of pioneering containers, lids and pallet solutions, working with the likes of Heineken, Jaguar Land Rover and Posten Norgen, Loadhog has recorded strong sales to Europe, helping exports achieving £3.3m in 2015.

Loadhogs managing director, Shaun Khan said: This was a wonderful surprise. I believe this prestigious and coveted accolade has been achieved by our staff focussing on building sales globally, particularly in Europe. I am proud of their efforts and they richly deserve this pat on the back.

With nine companies making the league table compared to five last year Yorkshire was the fastest growing region in Britain. The companies international sales have grown by an average of 83 per cent a year over the last two years to a total of £54m, and together employing 700 people.

Loadhog Celebrates Successful Grand Opening of New Factory in Obernai

Loadhog, the employee-owned manufacturer of sustainable reusable packaging solutions, proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new factory in Obernai on 16th October 2025, marking a major milestone in the company’s European expansion.

The event welcomed employees, partners, local officials, and community members to the new 5,000m² facility on Rue de l'Innovation, a location that perfectly reflects Loadhog’s commitment to forward-thinking design and sustainable manufacturing.

Guests enjoyed guided tours, product showcases, and speeches from leaders, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Vosges mountains.

Michel Barda, Director of Loadhog SARL, opened the ceremony by sharing: “Today marks an important milestone in our company’s history: the official opening of the Loadhog factory in Obernai. This project is much more than a construction. It is the culmination of a beautiful story of friendship and collaboration with the city of Obernai, and of a strong partnership with our builder, LCR.”

The new factory will serve as a key site for Loadhog’s intralogistics product range, including automation containers and trays, while helping to reduce transport costs and CO₂ emissions for European customers. It also brings new job opportunities to the region and introduces specialised manufacturing skills, contributing to the local innovation ecosystem.

Jacques Witkowski, Prefect of the Grand East Region, praised the company’s alignment with the region’s values: “Obernai has become a showcase for an entire innovation ecosystem. Loadhog Launches New Container for Automation

Leading packaging manufacturer, Loadhog is launching the Autotote 64, a container designed specifically to meet the challenges of intralogistics automation.

Recognising the worldwide trend towards automated storage and distribution – and, in particular, the rapid growth in mobile automation – as businesses seek to future-proof their supply chains, Loadhog is expanding its automation range with the launch of a brand-new tote.

Designed for automation

The patented Autotote 64 has been engineered to run smoothly and quietly on automated systems, while maintaining a high level of strength and durability. “We began developing products for automated systems back in 2021,” says Martin Baker, Senior Design Engineer at Loadhog, “and launched our Autotote 6545 in 2022. Having supplied over 350,000 of our Autototes to customers in a range of industries across Europe, we’ve now fed all our expertise and experience into designing a new standard container that is engineered specifically for use with AMRs, conveyors, shuttle storage systems and other ASRS technologies.”

Unique base design

The Autotote 64 features a unique single-shot, double-skin base that makes it completely smooth inside and out. Achieved by moulding instead of welding, this design makes the container both lighter in weight and less expensive to manufacture. The product’s chamfered, cantilever base edge reduces deflection and provides a degree of flex to ensure a smoother and quieter transition between linking conveyors, during directional change and over rollers. Meanwhile, diagonal ribbing strengthens the base and the fully closed underside protects conveyor systems, helping to save costs in terms of belt maintenance, while also improving grip and speed. The Autotote 64 also has several strengthened interaction points to optimise movement within an automated shuttle system.

Innovative features

With a footprint of 600 x 400 mm, the Autotote 64 is available in two heights, 270 mm and 320 mm. It is suitable for loads up to 50 kg and temperatures ranging from -20 to +40˚C. In addition to the benefits provided by its base, the container features hollow corners that deliver strong impact properties, while also aiding smooth conveying around corners. The new container also has offset drainage holes, designed in accordance with the FM Global datasheet 8-34.

Sustainable solution

In line with Loadhog’s ambition to achieve net zero by 2030, the Autotote 64 features recycled material to avoid UK plastic tax. Customers can opt for production using 100% recycled material and still achieve excellent sound performance and base stiffness. “Sustainability is further enhanced by the wall thickness of 2.3 mm,” explains Martin Baker. “This means less material is required for production and results in a lower product weight, yet without compromising on strength and durability. In this way, the Autotote 64 proves a valuable addition to the circular economy.”

Versatile options

The Autotote 64 is available with either closed handles or open ones with large internal radius for ergonomic handling. Identification options include in-mould labelling in a choice of 10 locations. Dividers can be used to maximise the number of SKUs within each tote, with a choice of widthways, lengthways or half-width dividers for optimum versatility in up to 8 sections. The dividers feature a flexible edge for easy removal and, unlike competitor versions, do not feature interlocking slits, which can be prone to weakness. Branding options for the Autotote 64 include printing or embossing, while the tote itself can be specified in a range of colours besides the standard grey.

New factory in France

Construction will soon be underway for Loadhog’s brand-new production facility at its site in Obernai, 10 miles southwest of Strasbourg. Due to open in 2025, the new factory will ensure shorter lead times for Loadhog’s European customers, while also reducing the company’s carbon footprint. Due to the high demand for automated intralogistics solutions on the Continent, the first product to roll off the new manufacturing line will be the Autotote 64.

Loadhog Donation Extends The Life Of City Community Café

The sales and marketing coordinator at Loadhog, Sheffields transit packaging innovator, has given up many of her Saturday lunchtimes to help out at a community café serving the citys vulnerable, and this time she handed over a £1,200 donation from her employer.

Naomi Jones has been making a hands on contribution for some time, then Loadhog decided the Revive Café was in need of funds to continue its valuable work of providing food and hospitality to the homeless and marginalised in Sheffield.

Based in the Archer Project in the heart of Sheffield city centre, the Revive Café is open on Saturday lunchtimes to provide tasty and nourishing food as well as friendly company and a listening ear.

Supported by a team of enthusiastic and loyal volunteers, the cafés organisers are Maria Adcock and Jonners Baker who were delighted with Loadhogs contribution.

Maria Adcock said: We believe that sharing a warm meal helps to break down conventional barriers and create a community. Our guests come back time and again for the friendship as well as the food.

We thank Loadhog for its kind donation which will enable us to run for a further six months, which is just incredible, thank you again.

On the day that Naomi presented Loadhogs cheque to the Revive Café, there was a record number of service users through the door, which shows that awareness of Revive Café is growing and becoming an increasingly popular place, not only to be fed, but also to chat with people who will listen.

Goal: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Climate change impacts the entire planet. Anthropogenic activity is responsible for this, and it threatens the stability of our future. With ever increasing GHG emissions, the rate at which climate change is occurring is much faster than previously forecasted, with the effects being felt globally.

Changing weather patterns, sea level rises, and more extreme weather events are just some of the impacts associated with a warming climate. The year 2019 was the second warmest on record, bringing with it massive wildfires, hurricanes, droughts, flood and other climate disasters. If no measures are taken to combat climate change, progress in developments will be reversed and there will be mass migrations that will lead to instability and wars.

Climate change is a global challenge that requires coordinated international cooperation. It poses a real threat to humanity and the catastrophic effects are already beginning to unfold. In order to make and enforce changes to help restore the planet, there needs to be a drive-in education, innovation and adherence to our climate commitments. This will also provide opportunities to modernise our infrastructure, subsequently creating new jobs and increase prosperity globally.

Affordable solutions are available to allow countries to change to a more resilient and low carbon economy.

Rolling Container System Delivers Benefits for the Post & Parcel Industry

The Dolly Max rolling container system from Loadhog offers greater manoeuvrability and improved vehicle fill compared to traditional roll cages, helping to streamline operations in the post & parcel sector.

Loadhog has channelled its experience in the postal industry – including projects for DHL, Australia Post and Posten in Norway – into its innovative Dolly Max rolling container system. Modular in design, the solution is suitable for both letters and parcels. It features the Dolly Max wheeled based, used with either Loadhog’s Stack & Nest 43 mail trays (for letters) or the company’s tall, foldable sleeve (for parcels). Loads are secured with Loadhog’s Half Euro Pallet Lid, which features retractable straps and an integrated tensioning mechanism.

One-touch brake

The system offers a number of advantages over the roll cages traditionally used in the sector. The sheer weight of metal roll cages means that loading capacity is often reached before a vehicle is full. Loadhog’s lightweight units, on the other hand, optimise use of vehicle space. In fact, with 64 Dolly Max units fitting in a 40 ft trailer – compared to just 45 roll cages – vehicle fill is increased by up to 42%. All items in the modular solution are manufactured from durable yet lightweight polypropylene, making the rolling containers easy to manoeuvre, even with heavy loads. And, whereas roll cages often have sharp touchpoints and troublesome brakes, the Dolly Max system is safe to handle and features an easy-access, one-touch brake mechanism.

Loadhog is also trialling last-mile applications for the system, which will make movement of packages from delivery vans to parcel lockers both easier and faster. Packaging innovator, Loadhog, has been working with its customers in the post, parcel, retail and ecommerce industries to design a new versatile rolling container system. This system offers increased versatility, better vehicle fill, improved handling efficiencies, and carbon reductions vs existing systems on the market today.

Loadhog’s new modular system can be adapted for transporting and storing. The versatility offers possibilities for segregated goods within various container types, loose goods within a bulk sleeve, and mixed goods within the same footprint by utilising Loadhog’s Sleeve Stacking Tray. The new dolly base enables users to adapt to the fluctuating nature of goods within their supply chain. The tare weight and footprint of the system also allows it to be utilised on all vehicle types even smaller sprinter vans, offering benefits across the fleet.

The versatility of the unit has won an initial order of 10,000 units, which will be incorporated into a new project for a global automotive parts distributor. The distributor will utilise the unit for delivery to independent garages, automotive retailers, and home delivery.

Loadhog’s R&D team began investigating the development of a new rolling container system after establishing a trend in the market, with numerous customers enquiring about alternative substitutions to the traditional roll cage, wrapped pallets, and pallet shippers.

Loadhog’s new dolly base, Dolly Max, boasts an innovative easy access one-touch brake mechanism, which is quicker and more ergonomic than the simple castor brake found on most cages today, ensuring the brake is always applied. The rolling container system also offers maximum transport efficiencies with +20% increased vehicle fill vs standard roll cages due to the standard ½ EU footprint and max capacity design.

Both systems have been designed to be deconstructed and returned as efficiently as possible. The bulk system has a 3/1 return ratio and ergonomic sleeve locks, with large safety shoe access to speed up system deconstruction. The rolling containers can be linked and manoeuvred by AGVs to reduce marshalling time. It can also be nested and stacked on MHE to transport multiple empty units, speeding up the returns process significantly.

The rolling container system has various features making Loadhog’s Dolly Max safer than substitute systems, including the brake’s coefficient of friction ensuring the unit remains still even on a sloped tail lift. The unit also presents no sharp metal touch points unlike roll cages, it doesn’t require MHE unlike pallet shippers, and the ease of brake application ensures the brake is always applied.

Jake Charlton, Product Manager, said, “We have worked collaboratively with customers within the postal and retail industries over the last three years to develop the most versatile and efficient system. It offers significant savings vs traditional packaging systems, and the customers we are working with have evidenced that.”

Innovative designer, Loadhog, won a King’s Award for Innovation in 2023 for their Pallet Lid invention. The Pallet Lid sits on top of the rolling container system to consolidate the load ready for transportation, no stretch wrap or banding required.

Birkenhead-born Philip Whitby, 50 joins the employee-owned, multi award-winning company after latterly performing the same role at the tyre service provider, ATS Euromaster, prior to which he was contract manager at two other companies. In his new role Philip will work from his home in Telford where he lives with his family.

Launched in 2014, Guardian was designed to comply with updated HSE and DVSA safety legislation and guidelines regarding load restraint on curtain sided vehicles. Guardian sales in other areas of the UK are going well, supported by the appointment in 2015 of another sales representative who also focusses on Northern England and Scotland.

Philip said: I am excited about working for an enterprising company which is growing and developing new products all the time. The fact that Loadhog is an employee-owned business is what attracted me initially, knowing that everybody has a role to play in its future.

Guardian bridges the gap between non-compliant roof straps and time- consuming ratchet straps on curtain-sided vehicles. It comprises a roof suspended rave-to-rave strapping system which prevents the load from moving. Overall more cost effective than precursor products, Guardian is operated from the ground with no need for drivers to climb onto the vehicle platform or blindly throw strapping over the load, as they would with a standard ratchet strap, making the system safer, easier and quicker.

Helping Sheffield Events Become Reusable

The Loadhog Foundation was established in 2021, allowing us to donate more to a larger range of charities. Loadhog encourages the foundation by giving 1% of its budgeted pre-tax net profits every year, going towards supporting local, national and international charities as well as good causes.

A recent good cause has been donating 600 reusable cups to Plastic Free Sheffield to use at their own Plastic Free Sheffield festival and numerous events around the Sheffield area. Loadhog always jumps on the chance to work with local organisations as we are proud to help the community, especially when we have the chance to educate about sustainability. Reducing single use plastics is something that both Plastic Free Sheffield and Loadhog are passionate about. The work that Plastic Free Sheffield has done has been important in highlighting this environmental issue, through different events to engage the community.

We hope that by the local community understanding the importance of a circular economy, that Sheffield becomes more sustainable. We also recognise how hard it is for some organisations to spread their message with a lack of funding, especially at these tough times. The ethos of giving something back has existed from the beginning at Loadhog and we have a brilliant workforce of people who often give their time to support and help charitable projects and fundraising events. The Foundation widely engages our workforce and allows people to choose causes that are close to their hearts.

Loadhog Foundation Supports 'Jack's Journey' with a £5,000 Donation

In November 2021, almost one year old Jack was diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), a cancer-like tumour that requires specialist treatment of oncologists. The effects of the tumour on Jack’s little body could be life-changing or life-limiting.

Jack’s Mum, Lucy shared – “Hearing this news, we were overwhelmed with a whole host of emotions. Numbness. Disbelief. Anger. And not to mention fear and confusion. Most parents quickly get to the point where they start to seek out and absorb information like a sponge. But sometimes, the cancer is a rare kind, and there just isn’t that much information to go on. It’s a scary place.”

Only around 50 children in the UK develop LCH each year. It can affect children of any age, and is more common in boys than in girls. The condition occurs when Langerhans cells, part of the body’s immune system, build up and form tumours called granulomas, usually in a person’s bones. It’s a very rare condition and research is relatively underfunded compared to other cancer research.

Jack’s parents have set up ‘Jack’s Journey’ at CCLG to raise funds for research specifically into LCH.

To help raise money, Jack’s parents will be rowing, running or riding a distance of 3,618km – the equivalent distance from their home to Korvatunturi, in Lapland, Finland (the official home of Father Christmas). They will complete the challenge by Christmas Day 2022.

Lucy added, “We’ve called the fund ‘Jack’s Journey’ because we’re aware that this is something that will not be over in a short period, and recognise that it’s something that we’ll make our way through as a family, with the support of our friends and others. The journey for us will be a tough one, but nothing compared to what Jack and other children with cancer will endure.”

When members of the Loadhog Foundation read Jack’s story, they knew straight away they wanted to help. The Loadhog Foundation was formed in 2021 and typically provides funding and support for other charitable organisations and good causes.

Loadhog Gift To Ashgate Hospicecare Will Give Patients Better Pain Control

Chesterfields Ashgate Hospicecare, an essential facility in the area, may now be in a position to purchase an advanced device which will give patients better pain control, following a £1,200 donation from Loadhog, Sheffields returnable transit packaging manufacturer.

Loadhogs fourth of the same amount this year to various charities, the gift to Ashgate Hospicecare will fund a syringe driver. This provides patients with better pain relief so they are able to spend more precious time with their loved ones.

Alison Ward-Foster, speaking on behalf of Ashgate, said: Loadhogs contribution will help the hospice to make a real difference in supporting terminally ill adults and their families in the Chesterfield area. We thank Loadhog for its generous support which will enable us to maintain the invaluable specialist palliative care we provide.

Loadhog has a charity team which decided to donate £1,200 eight times this year to a different cause each time. The first was to Sheffields Revive Café, to support the citys homeless, the second to the same citys Include Foundation, to help vulnerable young people, and the third to help youngsters who have lost their parents in Rotherham Hospice.

We Are Contributing to SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy

Goal: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all

During 2000 to 2018, the proportion of the global population with access to electricity increased by 12%, accounting for 90% of the world’s population who now have access to electricity. During the same time, that magnitude has more than doubled in lower economically developed countries (LEDCs). However, there remains approximately 789 million people globally who lack access to electricity.

In order to achieve universal access to affordable energy by 2030, there needs to be substantial investment made into clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal energy. Development programs need to be conducted in LEDCs, whereby projects focused on expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology should be carried out to encourage growth and help the environment.

More frequently, the cost of renewable energy sources is declining, and they are becoming more reliable and adequate. It is essential that we shift from our current production and consumption of energy via fossil fuels because this is unsustainable and harmful to the planet. In order to reduce the effects of climate change, it is crucial that we implement these new energy solutions sooner rather than later.

Our everyday life depends on reliable and affordable energy. However, 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions are a direct result of energy consumption.

SDG 7.2 – Increase Global Percentage of Renewable Energy

By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. At Loadhog, 100% of our energy demand is met by renewable energy.

How we can help:

Turn off air conditioning – open a window or use a fan.
Don’t use multiple devices at the same time. Be mindful about this and only use several devices when absolutely necessary.
Switch off appliances at the socket. Turn off the lights when not using them.
Buy rechargeable electronics. Don’t buy or use one-use batteries
Use solar energy sources. Install solar panels for heating and electricity. Loadhog will be installing solar panels in 2023. This will account for 11% of our energy consumption.

Designing the Future of Packaging

Loadhog designs and innovates its products to ensure that the plastics they use are reusable, recyclable and repairable. Our expert design team has years of experience in innovation; from designing returnable packaging solutions for supply chains, to creating new innovative products to meet specific customer and market needs.

As well as the existing product line, Loadhog can design and manufacture products to meet specific needs of the customer. For example, if the customer is already using returnable packaging but has problems with breakages or usability, Loadhog’s design team will adapt, change and implement solutions to meet the customers’ requirements, while solving their problems.

Loadhog were already designing and manufacturing Attached Lid Containers when a popular UK clothing retailer approached them with problems with their existing containers. They challenged Loadhog to fix the problems they were having and worked in conjunction with the design team to find the following solutions:

Adding a ribbed base for stiffness and noise reduction
Using alternative material to avoid breakages on impact
Adding the lid tessellation of a Helios
Innovating the hinge pin security to prevent pull through
Stepped wall design that mirrors and works with existing containers

The retailer also challenged an automation feature, which Loadhog proposed the specific collar design. From this came the Artemis, an addition to the ALC range. The Artemis enabled the retailer to be more efficient, reduce waste and increase security.

Loadhog brings extra value by learning, understanding and developing a product that will increase efficiency and usability within a customer’s supply chain.

The odds favoured local charities thanks to Loadhog

The dice were rolling and the roulette wheel spinning at a fund-raising Casino Night organised by Loadhog, Sheffields transit packaging manufacturer - one member of the Gripple family.

The £500 raised on the night was topped up by Loadhogs charity team which decided to donate a total of £1,700 to Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) and £300 for Maltby Lions Club.

Gambling on the night were more than 100 staff from other members of the parent group, including Gripple itself, Gripple Automation, PMS Diecasting and GoTools, Also playing the games were representatives from several of the groups suppliers.

Sue Coggin, from the SRSB, said: This was an exciting and fun way to raise funds and we are delighted that so many members of the Gripple family supported the night. We are grateful to Loadhog for arranging the night. The money will be put to good use for blind and partially sighted people

This year Loadhog has donated £1,200 to four other charities - the Revive Café, which supports Sheffields homeless; the Include Foundation, which helps the citys vulnerable young people; Rotherham Hospice, to help bereaved youngsters and Chesterfields Ashgate Hospicecare, to fund a device to ease patients pain.

Loadhog and Riverlution Team Up for a Day of Environmental Action

Today, Loadhog, one of the UK’s most innovative manufacturers of reusable packaging, was thrilled to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to its factory in Sheffield. The visit highlighted Loadhog’s cutting-edge work in sustainable manufacturing and its role in helping businesses reduce waste.

During her visit, The Princess Royal took a guided tour of Loadhog’s facility, where she saw the team in action, producing smart, sustainable packaging solutions that help replace single-use plastics. Her Royal Highness showed great interest in the company’s approach to reducing environmental impact, particularly how they’ve integrated closed-loop manufacturing practices – reusing materials to minimise waste at every step.

The Princess Royal took time to meet and chat with members of the Loadhog team, from engineers and production staff to apprentices. She expressed admiration for their work, commenting on how important companies like Loadhog are in leading the charge for greener, more sustainable industries.
